Mathematics and Economics: Connections for Life
Grade 6 - 9

NEED A NEW WAY TO GET MATH INTO THEIR HEADS?

 

This curriculum shows math teachers how mathematics concepts and knowledge can be used to develop economic and personal financial understandings. The 12 lessons can be applied to almost any math course and each lesson is correlated to the National Standards for Mathematics. Lessons include:

  • Numbers & Operations
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Measurement
  • Data Analysis &  Probability
  • Problem Solving
  • Reasoning & Proof
  • Communications Connections

Each lesson plan includes student activities, overhead transparencies, and background information on the economic content and how it relates to mathematics. Extension activities also included. Curriculum material and workshop are free. NO ECONOMICS BACKGROUND REQUIRED. Workshop consists of two sessions.  Enrollment limited to 20. Qualifies for 3 hours of SACS/professional development credit.
