FINANCIAL FITNESS FOR LIFE GRADES 6-8

Studies have shown that students who are exposed to the economic way of thinking are more self-confident and more competent in making financial decisions, building their careers, and acting as informed citizens. The seventeen lessons in this workshop are divided into five theme areas:

  • The economic way of thinking
  • Earning an income
  • Saving
  • Spending and using credit
  • Managing money.

Each theme area reinforces the notion that maintaining financial fitness, like physical fitness, requires a knowledge base and then applying it. Personal finance is an interdisciplinary area that incorporates language arts, computation skills, economics, finance, reasoning and decision making.

NO ECONOMICS BACKGROUND IS REQUIRED. Workshop participants get a Teacher’s Guide, Student Activity Workbooks, two Parents’ Guides and a comprehensive CD-ROM.
